Founded by Mr Asifur Chowdhury, SAZZ Initiative is a Singapore-based non-profit focused on running multi-community initiatives for the betterment of society. Since October 2022, SAZZ Initiative has provided over 10,000 meals to nearly 1,000 needy families and the elderly living in rental flats in Tanjong Pagar, Singapore. Efforts to improve migrant worker welfare include offering complimentary bus rides on Sundays for migrant workers living in dormitories in Jurong, as well as provision of essential living goods such as rice cookers and standing fans to help them adjust better to dormitory living in Singapore.
From August to December 2023, Asifur was also one of four crew members of London2Singapore Expedition 2023, an overland journey in two Land Rover Defender 110s which travelled over 15,000 miles across 21 countries from London to Singapore, often on poor road conditions and treacherous terrain, all in the name of charity. The four chosen beneficiaries were Darjeeling Children’s Trust (India), Open Your Heart to Bhutan (Bhutan), The Library Project (China), and SAZZ Initiative (Singapore). To celebrate the completion of the Expedition and the first anniversary of SAZZ Initiative, a special event incorporating a Christmas lunch for some of the elderly residents of Tanjong Pagar was held at Tanjong Pagar Community Club on 21 December 2023.
Moving forward, SAZZ Initiative will continue with these early initiatives and press ahead with more community uplifting efforts in the areas of sustainability and self-sufficiency, including a pilot rooftop farming project in Tanjong Pagar for residents to grow their own vegetables for consumption and provision to needy families in the constituency.
SAZZ Initiative is in the process of being registered as a charity in Singapore.
